Horrible audio stuttering/glitches.

Hi!

I have big problems with audio stuttering/glitches. This renders my Macbook Pro M1, 16gb RAM useless for any kind of serious work (Teams meetings/listen to music/watching videos etc..) . I am using a professional audio interface (RME UCX II) with all the latest drivers/firmware with Ventura 13.3.1. It's happening every time the RAM pressure hits a certain level in the Activity monitor.

Apple, can you help?

Best regards

Terje

If the RAM pressure is in the yellow or red, then it appears you don't have sufficient enough memory for your current workload. Or perhaps you are running some third party software which is interfering with the normal operation of macOS. Usual culprits are anti-virus apps, cleaning/optimizer apps, and third party security software....none of which are needed on a Mac. If you have any of these types of apps installed, then uninstall them by following the developer's instructions.

To get a better idea about your laptop, run EtreCheck and post the report here so we can see if anything shows up which may be causing a problem.

Try disconnect all external drives and any other unnecessary devices in order to see if one of them may be causing a problem.

Hello terje152,

To rule out an issue with the audio interface, does the issue persist without it?

If so, let's try to narrow this down and isolate it more by testing in safe mode and a new user account.

Safe mode prevents certain software from opening and also forces the computer to run some disk checks similar to First Aid. This can actually resolve some issues. More information on starting to safe mode and steps to take after starting there can be found here: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

How to use safe mode:

Apple silicon
1. Shut down your Mac.
2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode”.
4. Log in to your Mac. You may be asked to log in again.

If the issue continues after the steps from safe mode, create a new user account (administrator) to see if the behavior happens there. This will let us know if it is system-wide or something within your user account: Change Users & Groups settings on Mac

Delete a user or group on Mac (to remove the test account once completed)

Let us know what you find.

Cheers!
