Connecting Yamaha Piano to iPad with USB-C port

Does anyone have a successful connection between their iPad (Pro) with USB-C and a digital piano, and if so how did you do it?

I need info about a USB to Host connection from the digital piano to the iPad. I have a USB-B to USB-C cable but that's not working in GarageBand. GarageBand doesn't see the piano.

Do I need the Apple accessory or can I just use a generic USB-B (piano) to USB-C (iPad) cable?

hi there,

I have the same problem. I want to connect my Yamaha p125a with usb to host port to my Mac (2020) with usb C port. As I am totally lost in technic or cables, I would say I would use directly cable usb B 2.0 to usb C. Is that possible with downloading some driver afterwards? Or what's the trick? :D

And then...I have found usb B to C cable online written for printers ! omg pls help somebody :)

You are perhaps more likely to achieve a working USB connection between your iPad Pro and your digital piano using one of these connection methods:

a) connect your iPad to a third-party USB-C hub that includes both a USB Type-A port and a USB-C Power Delivery port.

b) use an Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter

c) use an Apple USB-C to USB Adapter

… to which you will connect the piano with a standard USB Type-A to Type-B cable.

Options (a) and (b) offer the means to simultaneously connect your USB-C Power Adapter - whereas option (c) has no opportunity to simultaneously connect external power.

Option (b) would indeed be my first choice - although I routinely use a Kingston Nucleum USB-C hub unless travelling, when the Apple Digital AV Adapter also travels in my computer bag.

While I don’t have access to a piano to verify the potential solution, insofar as will be technically possible, your problem will hopefully be resolved. If expected connectivity is not restored, then you have a fundamental compatibility issue.

Were you able to get it working? I was trying to do something similar (connecting Yamaha YPG-235 to my mac with usb c).

I ended up finding an old usb B printer cable (A to B), and was able to connect it to my usb c hub with hdmi/usb a ports. So I'm sure a USB B to C would work if you can find the right driver. I got mine working and was able to see the MIDI input from Garage band.

I don't see a mac driver for your model but there is one for Windows.
