How do you add a contact to a group message list. The article says there should be a header at the top but I don't have one, and there's no "Add contact" button.

Yes. You can only add contacts to a Group message where everybody is using an iPhone. If there there are non Apple devices in play, you need to create a new Group Message.

* You can only add someone to a group message if they're using an Apple device. If you want to add someone to a group message but they're using a non-Apple device, you need to create a new group message. That message will use SMS/MMS by default since someone is using a non-Apple device.

There should be a group of bubbles (circles) with the images of the people in the group message at the top.
Tap that to open the group details. It will show a list of people in the group, and the Add contact option at the very bottom of the list.

What happens if you don't have a header at the top? All I see is the list of people and no "Add contact" button.
