Unable to transfer funds to Apple Savings account after adding external bank account.

Is anyone else seeing this error after adding an external bank account to Apple Savings? "For your security, only accounts that are verified to be in your name can be used for transfers. If you need help, contact Support."

After adding the external account, I saw this message and assumed there may be a wait period before the account is ready for transfers, but the error remains after waiting several days.

Is there a way to resolve this?

Here's a tip that was given to me after waiting on hold for an hour and a half: call during your bank's regular business hours. Goldman Sachs will have to call your bank to verify your name and account, so your bank has to be open. The team of people who make these calls work from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Eastern Time, so plan your call early enough in the day to be on hold for an eternity, but to where your bank is still open to receive the phone call once you get through to a real person.

The description that notetoself.net gave a couple entries previous to this is the exact thing that I went through this morning, except that I called at 8:30 AM Eastern and my wait time was much less. The end result was instant success, and I moved a test amount from the newly verified account into the Apple Savings account; by 3:00 PM today it was already showing the new balance.

UPDATE! As described earlier, I verified my account by adding the savings account to my own bank account. The whole process took one day and no phone calls. I was thrilled to complete the transfer through my bank and not the App. Unfortunately, I received replies on the post that they had already completed the procedure. The problem was moving money from savings back to the bank (bubble bursted). My bank allows me to conduct transfers back and forth (as described by another post). I sent a request in to transfer money from savings to bank and will see how long it takes. Next 1-2 business days is okay with me. If it works, I will handle transfers, using my bank, for the foreseeable future. In a few months, I will try again with Goldman Saks. I will post if it works for me.

“This savings account effort is over for me.” - Let me elaborate.

No idea what the vast majority experience has been, or what the “panic” button is. Software enables the ability to enforce or remind instructions during the set up process. Unclear what a calm approach, or suggestions how to self service addresses the poor user experiences Apple is continuing to deliver.

I can only speak about my experience and sharing it with others who may read here.

  1. created savings account
  2. linked 2 bank account routing and account numbers
  3. Test transfer of $1000 to Apple Savings and saw that transaction
  4. A few days later an “Adjustment” of $1000 declined transaction (it now shows “credit reversal”). No alert, no email, no text, no explanation.
  5. I called my bank and they saw no transaction from Goldman Sachs (GS)
  6. Text with GS person 1: explains bank rules, is it mine, is it a trust, etc etc. Needs to be verified on phone, but long wait time. Try linking a bank checking account (seriously, text it twice). I gave all screen shots of what I did and why I was calling.
  7. Phone to GS to verify bank account (it’s an option # provided right when calling in) - 20 minutes got GS person 2: you need verification - let me transfer you. On hold over 1 hour longer. Hung up.
  8. Tried iPhone to close the savings account. No option.
  9. Tried iPhone to pay Apple credit card balance. Error: There is no linked account (the one pending savings account verification same bank).
  10. Txt 2 with GS person 3 to cancel savings. Took 5 minutes, account cancelled (can’t verify or not). They had to transfer me to fix my credit card re-linking to my bank account. GS person 4 took about 7 minutes, set up my bank account to my credit card on the phone which now works again.

If you attempted to link your new savings account to the same bank account you use for your credit card payments and aren’t successful or need phone verification, recommend you check your credit card link. End result for me is 3+ hours to get back to where I was with the credit card. I’m not investing anymore time into the savings account.

Since most of the external accounts still can be verified by Apple savings immediate, e.g., 2 of 3 of my external accounts were OK, for those accounts with auto verification problems, GS can use the basic ACH account verification process, i.e., send two small deposited to the external bank account and the owner report back the amounts of two deposits and accounts get verified. Any bank can do this and GS should be able to do this as well. Bank customers should not be requested to wait a long on the phone and make a three-way call for verification which has been proved not working for us.

The vast majority had no issue setting up their savings account. A few didn’t follow two simple instructions and hit the panic button rather than calmly searching Apple Support or asking a simple question or two.

  1. Update to latest version of iOS

2. Verify Apple Cash account. When activating their Apple Card it’s highly recommended as part of the process. It’s also part of setup of Apple Pay.

UPDATE for anyone interested:

I spent most of the day yesterday and all of today calling (getting hung up on or calls randomly drop) customer NO HELP....until I really really got angry and demanded to speak to someone that could help NOW.

Because I transferred all the money from one savings account and closed that account when I opened the GS/Apple account...they claim I either have to: wait a min of 90 days!! to make any withdrawals OR if the transfer account that I funded the GS/Apple account was still open- I could EASILY do a transfer back to th efunding account. This does NOT sound legal or right to me. I reopened that funding account and transferred all my money back. We shall see if this transfer actually goes through.

This is plain crazy! I filed an FDIC complaint today as GS/Apple did NOT make those ridiculous terms known upfront to unsuspecting customers.

I have had HYSAs with AMEX and Discover, and neither had as many issues as the Apple/GS one. There was a limit of 6 withdrawals per month, but thankfully I never needed to touch the money. I keep my emergency fund in my HYSA. The issue I am having isn't moving money out of the account it's moving it in.

I found out what the issue was thought. The account I'm transferring money from is a Cash Management account. I don't know why AMEX and Discover didn't have any issues withdrawing money from the Cash Management account though.

Hi GinerBoy, I was replying to lukaglenn. The community forums get confusing when multiple people post multiple discussions in one thread.

I’m sorry you’re have issues verifying your account. I’m assuming you are trying to verify an external account for transferring funds to Apple Savings? I verified multiple accounts right on my iPhone using my banks app or website. This includes my Wells Fargo, Chase and 5/3 accounts. It only took about 5 minutes for each account. Have you tried doing it yourself?
