Unable to transfer funds to Apple Savings account after adding external bank account.

Is anyone else seeing this error after adding an external bank account to Apple Savings? "For your security, only accounts that are verified to be in your name can be used for transfers. If you need help, contact Support."

After adding the external account, I saw this message and assumed there may be a wait period before the account is ready for transfers, but the error remains after waiting several days.

Is there a way to resolve this?

Here's a tip that was given to me after waiting on hold for an hour and a half: call during your bank's regular business hours. Goldman Sachs will have to call your bank to verify your name and account, so your bank has to be open. The team of people who make these calls work from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Eastern Time, so plan your call early enough in the day to be on hold for an eternity, but to where your bank is still open to receive the phone call once you get through to a real person.

I have the same problem with one of my external accounts on my iPhone 14 pro max. I was told that it can be manually corrected by calling in during daytime. The apple support staff has to make a three-way call, i.e., you, apple & your external bank to verify you and then they can correct the problem on your iPhone. I want to resolve this issue and I have spent 3.5 hours on this over the phone last week but was not successful. In twice of the calls, the three-way calls was dropped on apple support staff side and leave my bank rep and me were talking. We have to hang up the phone finally without the results and no call backs from Apple support! I think any banks in this situation will call me back immediately to resolve the issues. It was frustrating. I have been an apple customer for many years and this is the worst customer service experience I have had.

As an alternative, I have verified and connected my external bank account to my apple savings from the bank side. I can now send and withdrawal money from my external bank side. But I still want this bank accounts on my iPhone working so I can send and withdrawal money from the iPhone as well. Hope Apple will fix this kind of issue quickly.

I had the same issue. I tried calling this number few minutes ago and after being on hold it went to a number where I can hear kids talking in background and nobody picked my call. Over text, this is what I got from the rep - the whole thing sounds very fishy and I am starting to get uncomfortable with keeping my money in Apple Savings -

“I see. We will need additional verification done over the phone. Please note, the verification process will require a call to your bank and can take some time. Verifying the account is dependent on our specialty department speaking with a representative of your bank. I also want to mention your bank may not speak with us based on each bank’s policies and procedures. At your convenience, please call us at 1-877-255-5923, Monday to Friday, 9am - 6p CST.”

Payments and transfers/deposits are regulated differently.

Have you tried using your external account to verify your Apple Savings account? That’s how I did it. I have accounts with Chase, 5/3, Wells Fargo and several investment accounts. I use their apps or websites to verify my Apple Savings account. It was much quicker, and didn’t involve any lengthy 3 way phone calls. If you have issues your banks support team can assist you with the verification.

Interesting that's exactly what I did. Through my other account, it sent a deposit to the GS savings and took it back then asked me to verify the amounts. Upon completion, I was allowed to send money to GS savings from my bank account, but the option to send money from GS savings to my bank account is greyed out saying I have to verify the account.

Is your other account a savings? Checking accounts in GS Savings seem to instantly connect allowing you to send or deposit from within GS Savings to that external checking. However GS Savings doesn't seem to allow you send/receive from within GS Savings to external savings. You have to use your external savings bank to send or pull money from GS Savings. I haven't confirmed why GS savings works with checking but not other savings accouts.

Hello,

I am having same problem as well. I have spent close to 4 hours with apple savings support off and on since Monday. My brother uses the exact same credit Union as the one I’m trying to link with and he had no problem at all with set up.

The work around at this point is to add money to Apple Cash first then transfer to savings. Hopefully they get the issue fixed.

There are new account restrictions (Federal requirements) that can extend the time deposits take during the first 30 days. After that, ACH transfers will take 1 to 3 days. You can also do near instant transfers (generally with no fees) from your external account to Apple Cash and then Apple Cash to Apple Savings. Limitations on Apple Cash transfers are $10,000 in a day and no more than $20,000 in a 7 day rolling period.

Just an update with Goldman Sacks! After a recent post, I tried once again to verify my bank account. Called the number, got a rep almost immediately, and contacted my bank in less than five minutes. In fact, the rep checked on me a couple of times during the wait to get through. Unfortunately, my bank would not approve me over the phone. The rep passed on the instructions my bank required for me to verify my account. The rep suggested that I just add the savings account to my bank and make transfers in that manner. I had already done that and made a transfer on same date. I will continue to handle it this way. I recommend you contact them when your bank is open for quicker service. I am impressed that they turned it around so quickly. FYI, Vanguard has a similar savings account but you have to wait to be invited due to high interest. Good luck 🍀!

I set the transfer process at my bank and not GS. I tried doing transfers using my bank instead of App. It worked fine but took 2-3 days with low amounts. Checked with my bank and their money market account (FDIC insured) offers 3 1/2 %. The best part the transfers are instantaneous and you are allowed to move money back and forth 6 times per month. Savings accounts rate are terrible. I am okay with that rate knowing I can transfer 24/7 in case of emergency. Good luck 🍀
