How do I recycle my MacBook Pro if the battery is dead?

since you are going to recycle it anyways, I would open it up and physically remove the drive. then you can destroy the drive, or put it in an enclosure and repurpose it.

you can go to OWC’s website and find the self install video for your specific Mac to learn how to do that.

thanks, I didn't check on that before posting. in the 2017 non Touch Bar model, the SSD can be removed. but if it is a Touch Bar model, I would still open the case and take a hammer to the unremovable SSD. :)

An Apple Store will accept it for recycling. Provided you enabled FileVault there is no possibility of retrieving any of its data.

Absolutely. PO's profile line, if accurate (they often are not 😉), shows a 15-inch. But I fully agree that a hammer and maybe a chisel will probably work a trick! Hard to recover anything from a SSD that is bifurcated.

You'll just need to trust that whoever states they will recycle it won't do anything other than melt it down for materials. There's actually a good deal of gold and other precious metals in a computer.

But if you're really paranoid, you could take it apart and then take a blowtorch to the board before handing it in. I personally wouldn't worry about it with an Apple device.
