How do I recycle my MacBook Pro if the battery is dead?

i want to recycle my macbook pro, but i can't power it up at all. i get nothing. want to recycle it, but handing it over to anyone without knowing it has been wiped is terrifying. it's a 2017 and beyond apple care. suggestions?

since you are going to recycle it anyways, I would open it up and physically remove the drive. then you can destroy the drive, or put it in an enclosure and repurpose it.

you can go to OWC’s website and find the self install video for your specific Mac to learn how to do that.

You'll just need to trust that whoever states they will recycle it won't do anything other than melt it down for materials. There's actually a good deal of gold and other precious metals in a computer.

But if you're really paranoid, you could take it apart and then take a blowtorch to the board before handing it in. I personally wouldn't worry about it with an Apple device.
