Hello Jpbrown27,

To confirm, this is happening on your AirPods Max headphones? If so, this could be a physical or software related.

If it's software related, we'd first recommend to reset the AirPods Max and test out the issue. Resetting the AirPods Max is a good way to get them back to factory settings and determine if the issue continues to occur or not. Here's how you could accomplish the reset: How to reset your AirPods Max

Should the issue continue, test if this happens with another device. This will tell us if the issue only happens with a specific device or all devices: Set up AirPods with your Mac and other Bluetooth devices

In case the issue is hardware related and not software related, then it would be best to bring them in for an inspection: AirPods Replacement, Repair, & Service

Please bring in the AirPods Max, the original receipt, and a photo ID with you to your appointment.

Select on service here and search nearby for locations: Find Locations

Let us know how it goes for more help.

Take care.
