I want my iPhone 7 to update iOS 15

There are different ways to ensure the highest iOS that your device will support is installed on your device.

When updating, your device will update to the highest version currently available that it will support, or it will just say it is up to date (and can't go any higher) and won't install anything. Apple indicates ( Unable to update my iPhone 6 Plus from 12… - Apple Community ) I need to point out the obvious and state that if you want to run a higher system version than your current device will run, that you need to buy a newer device.

- An iPhone 7 can currently only update to iOS 15.7.5

If you have 6-8 GB of free space on your phone, a good strong Wi-Fi Internet connection and the battery is fully charged.....what happens if you tap......

Settings > General > Software update

Note.....an iPhone 7 cannot update to iOS 16, if that might be what you are trying to do.
