Presumably then, you have created a new Apple ID in order to start this discussion. Do not be tempted to use this new Apple ID (account) on your iPod or in iTunes as you will not be able to access any purchases from the iTunes Store made with the existing account.

Finding your password when you're already logged in can be tricky because unless I'm mistaken, you will need to sign out of the account and then use the Forgot Password option. I can think of two places that you can do this: iTunes or the iPod.

Make sure that you know your Apple ID before you attempt either of these methods (it's shown in the iPod's Settings menu (see below).

iPod:

  • On your iPod open Settings and tap the name (your name) that appears at the top of the page
  • the new page will show you your name and the Apple ID (your email address) that the iPod is currently logged in with. Usually, it is the email address that you originally used to set up the iPod
  • providing you still have access to that email address, log out of your account and then tap the Forgot Password option that will be displayed on the sign-on screen. An email will be sent to the email address that is associated with the account. You can then follow the procedure in the email to reset your password

iTunes:

  • on iTunes' top bar menu, choose Account
  • if you are already signed in, sign out using the Account/Sign Out option
  • once you are not signed in:
    • tap the Sign In option on the Account menu
    • tap the Forgot Apple ID or password? This will open up a web page in your browser
    • follow the procedure on that page. There is an option to find your account ID if needed, but it's much simpler if you avoid using that option. As previously mentioned, do not be tempted to create a new account as you will not be able to access any purchases from the iTunes Store made with the existing account

This procedure will involve creating a new password. Remember that this will mean that you will need to sign back in to any other places with the new password. For example, if you do this on your iPod, you will then find that you need to sign in again to your account in iTunes (and any other Apple devices or pages that are using that same account.
