No ‘double tap AirPod’ option; touch control not working

My new AirPod 3, but the touch control does not work. When looking at the seething following the instructions, there is no ‘double tap AirPod’ which I can choose either right or left. I wonder what causes such problem and how I can fix it! I disconnect the devices many times, and it still didn’t work. The option still did not appear in the seething. Thanks.

There are no touch controls on AirPods 3.

There is a force sensor that you squeeze on the stem.

Hello chrea256,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

We want to help make sure your new AirPods are working perfectly for you.

We see you viewed the Apple Support page for Change the settings of your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support

From this link, please check the settings to make sure the double-tap action is set correctly:

"Change the double-tap action on AirPods (1st and 2nd generation)

You can choose what you want to happen when you double-tap one of your AirPods (1st and 2nd generation):

  1. Open your charging case.
  2. With your AirPods in your ears and connected to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > Bluetooth. Alternatively, you can go to Settings > AirPods.
  3. Tap the More Info button  next to your AirPods.
  4. Select the left or right AirPod to choose which AirPod you'd like to double-tap for Siri, playing or pausing audio content, or skipping between tracks."

Try restarting your iPhone if the issue continues to help refresh the software and resolve any issues.

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
