apple pencil gen 2 pressure sensor

I've attached images to help show the problem better- the line thickness just does not stay consistent or smooth; there are random dips and bulges across what should be a smooth brush stroke. It's pictured best in the 1st attached image.

I've had my apple pencil gen 2 and iPad pro gen 6 since mid January and everything had been working fine until today- the pressure sensitivity function seems to be malfunctioning? I've tried to go across apps (notability, sketchbook, notes) and it has been an issue everywhere which leads me to believe the issue is either my iPad itself or the pencil. I've tried changing the pencil tip, restarting my iPad, disconnecting and reconnecting the pencil but nothing seems to be working.
