Several apps suddenly appeared with a cloud/downward arrow and when touched would not download? How to get these downloaded?

Suddenly several apps will not open and have a cloud with downward arrow. The iCloud storage is abundant. This device is fully updated. Any ideas?

iPad Air, iOS 12

How much free space is on your iPad Air? To find out, open Settings ➡️ General ➡️ About ➡️ Available: Here, you will see how much space is actually available on your iPad Air.

You may have Offload Unused Apps set to ON in Settings ➡️ App Store ➡️ Offload Unused Apps. When this setting is ON, then your iPad Air will offload unused Apps to create space on your iPad Air when space is not available. The app gets downloaded when you are ready to use it. NOTE: The app data never gets offloaded.

I believe, what may be happening with your iPad Air is that there is very little free space available on it. Offloading unused apps is no longer effective and therefore you are unable to download the app(s) so that it can function properly on your iPad Air.

If space is nearly full on your iPad Air, then try deleting some data on your iPad. Media files take up the most space so begin with unwanted Videos, Photos and Music.

The indication that you see suggests that the Apps have been offloaded - however, your indicated free storage space would suggest otherwise.

To clarify, does the available 36.44GB refer to your iPad storage - or iCloud? iCloud storage cannot be used to install your Apps.

You can check your available iPad storage from iPad settings:

Settings > General > iPad Storage

Check the graphic at the top of the page for your actual free space.

The App (or Apps) has already been offloaded. Re-installing an already offloaded App won’t delete any data that hasn’t already been lost. Data associated with an App should only be deleted if the App is intentionally uninstalled/removed from your iPad.

If any data associated with the troublesome Apps has already been lost, reinstalling the App (or Apps) from the App Store will make no difference at all.
