About backup plans

So if your backup bar is large does it eventually shrink or it stays the same?

Large backup despite selecting no apps I’m trying to shrink my backup but nothing seems to be working. It says my next backup will be +1.35GB even though I deselected all apps and now have nothing selected for back up. I also deleted the backup to try to start from zero, but nothing seems to reduce the back up size. Any ideas on what to do?

Why does a 1 day later backup take 10 gb? There is no way that many files changed? Why does my backup 1 day later, take 10 gb? There is no way that many files changed each day.

is the supplied 5GB no longer adequate for a backup? I've literally deleted and disabled every app as well as file storage and photos and contacts (this is not my first rodeo). there's <200k on my 5GB used, but, the backup tells me there's not enough room. If 5GB isn't enough to do a very basic backup, why hasn't it been bumped up? HALP

If you have old backups of devices that you no longer have and no longer need, you can delete them. See: Manage your iCloud storage - Apple Support
