If I read this correctly, a balance U$50,000. (at 4% annual) will earn U$2,000 in a year??

Thank you (all) for taking time to clarify this for me. I bought $5,000 in Apple stock just before it split and it has made me over 30% in 2 1/2 years. Nice, but... the gut wrenching win/lose every day makes me crazy. The idea of money just growing silently and without fuss and making 10% in 2 1/2 years has some benefits. Will be doing more research tomorrow.
