Possibly sticky substance in charging port. How can I tell? Ipad won’t charge. Getting picture on screen to plug into the charging port (pictorial).

There may be something sticky in my charging port. Picture on screen indicates to plug into my port. How can I clean the port?

If your iPad charging port is obstructed by sticky or other material, you would be best advised to entrust its removal to the technicians at the Genius Bar of your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - as they have access to both appropriate tools and specialist knowledge to remove foreign material without causing damage:

Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple

Dry fluff or dirt can often be carefully and gently dislodged using a plastic or sharpened wooden toothpick - being careful to avoid damaging the delicate electrical contracts and retainer springs within the connector. Sticky material, such as you describe, may require assessment and an entirely different approach to the problem.
