unable to fast forward on apps

When I first got Apple TV 4K. I could fast forward on apps eg Disney plus etc. but now I cannot. I can still skip 10 seconds but that’s about it. If I hold the right button down on remote it looks like it is going to try and fast forward as you get arrows appear but then nothing and it just carries on playing the content. Again I can skip 10 seconds and that continues to work but actually fast forwarding I cannot. I have to resort to the iPhone Apple Tv remote and skip through on that instead.

I’ve also tried pausing the program and trying to fast forward but that doesn’t seem to work using the remote either. It used to though so wondering if the software updates (I’m on latest currently) have stopped it functioning as well?

Hi. Thanks for response. I’ve found that most apps I’ve tried recently just doesn’t fast forward. ‘Scrubbing’ also doesn’t work as it used to. I can pause and app and try and skip or fast forward and nothing happens. All other devices such as roku or Amazon firestick works fine for fast forwarding on the same apps. It’s just the Apple TV I’m having issues with. I’ve already reset the remote but not done anything to fix this issue. Everything else with remote is fine it’s just the fast forwarding that has issues.

no one else having this issue? I looked around on forums and couldn’t see anyone with issues and I guess most people wouldn’t need to fast forward to much anyway but for times you do it’s very frustrating to not be able to do it with remote.

I've noticed that the functions tend to vary in subtle ways across different apps. Apple talks about "scrubbing" forward or backward with left or right swipes (optional to press&hold) and that usually works for me.

Here's a couple Apple Support articles about using the remote:

If it seems that your remote has gone haywire and is acting incorrectly or erratically, which happens but rarely, a resest and a redo of the pairing process usually sorts things out: If your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote isn't working - Apple Support

OK I just spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to rewind in fast forward using the Siri remote on an iPhone to control prime. Long presses and double taps on the pad do not work for me. There is a 10 second jump button in the bottom left and right corners. Holding these and tapping them repetitively is what finally did the trick to fast forward in large quantities. I have to say it’s pretty frustrating to search on Google for such a long period of time and get so many wrong answers, and for the answer to not be that intuitive. To me, it makes more sense to long press left or right on the pad than it does to hit a button that has a specific purpose, to move in 10 second increments, when it actually does move in larger than 10 second increments.

I have this issue with vudu (fandango at home now since they bought vudu)- it’s the main source I buy my movies/tv that aren’t on streaming - so all my fav shows or movies that aren’t on streaming I just buy in vudu so I own them. The other app was Amazon prime, but that has seemed to resolve itself. Vudu is the only app I’m having a problem with, but it depends what mood it’s in lol. Sometimes it lets me scrub, but most times when I see the preview of what I’m trying to scrub to - doesn’t change and if I press the button on the Apple tv remote- it starts the movie or episode from the beginning. It’s highly annoying since I paid for all these movies/shows. I’m very tech advanced and I’ve tried using the Apple TV remote on my iPhone but like other people say you can only go back and forth 5 or 10 seconds- but when you try to scrub through a movie it would take forever. The best workaround I found for vudu is that if you scroll down while whatever is playing- there is a “chapters” tab. Kinda like old school dvd/blu ray players that allows you to pick a certain chapter in an episode or movie. Thats what I’m doing for now. I don’t know whether to contact apple or vudu- im assuming it’s apple cause that’s the device I’m playing it from. I haven’t tried streaming from my phone and seeing if it does that. I could do that and mirror my phone to my Apple TV but I’m afraid it will do what Netflix does when you try to do that- it will say play from your Apple TV in lieu of mirroring.

if anyone has another ideas other than force closing the app and restarting the Apple TV (which I did many time before I realized vudu added “chapters” cause that’s a new feature and possibly they did it was a temporary solution until Apple could figure this out. They either need to release a patch with their next public b*ta update or an official esp since we pay for stuff on this app
