copy files from OneDrive onto my new Mac

My old Lenovo laptop died on me (thanks to the weak electronics stemming from the power adapter shorting on me). I'm desperately trying to copy all my data from it via OneDrive backup. But, my new Mac is unable to copy them all, leaving half my folders with the only option to "Finish Copying". Finish Copying does not work! It only says that it is preparing for the copying, but it never does anything else.

What gives? I've wasted half a day on this, but to no avail. Which is to blame, my Mac or OneDrive? Or both?

I have since discovered that the screen saver timeout is responsible to stalling the OneDrive downloads.

Are you certain that the data was uploaded from the old laptop? You should be able to sign in to OneDrive on your Mac and access files on demand rather than actively downloading them all, but that is only going to work for items that had successfully synced to OneDrive.

Yes, I'm sure.

Well, I don't see how I can access those folders/files on-demand if the only option available to me is to Finish Copying.

I suspect my only option here is to connect the old laptop's drive to my Mac and do a manual copying of the Windows My Documents files.

BTW, I intend to switch to iCloud to back up my data online.

The only way I could find to download all files from OneDrive was to do the download on a PC. I tried quite a bit finishing the job on the Mac, but to no avail.

I have all those OneDrive files on an external SSD. I will soon try to bring those files onto my Mac. Let's hope it goes smoothly.
