iPhone 14 pro max suddenly dead

My iPhone 14 pro max was dead this morning after spending all night on an Apple wireless charger attached to its back (which was separated from the charger by the thickness of the Otterbox case). Standard restart (volume-down+power) didn’t work and putting it on a lightning cable charger didn’t either. Eventually I did a search, found reports going back to 2022 that suggested the volume-up/volume-down/power-button technique, which worked. The phone came up at 70% charged, suggesting it froze not long after charging began. Many thanks to those who previously reported this.

While it is called an iPhone, what you have is a very powerful pocket-sized computer that can also make phone calls. And like all computers, it can crash occasionally and need to be restarted. What you did is called a forced restart, and is the PC or Mac equivalent of turning it off with the power switch, then restarting it. You can reduce the likelihood of this happening by manually restarting it every week or two→Restart your iPhone - Apple Support
