Email and Excel Documents on my MacBook Air

I am new to Apple products and am running a MacBook Air. I frequently create Excel documents and email them from within Excel. However, Excel (neither do Word, etc.) doesn't give me the option to share via email. When I choose "send pdf" or "send workbook" the system simply "dings" at me. No error. I use Outlook and Outlook is listed as my default mail app. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think that's a question for Microsoft, or for a Microsoft product user support forum.
