Does Anyone care about Logic Pro anymore?

It has been months since we received an update for logic. All other daws receive updates at least per month. What happened to Melodyne ARA integration after Apple Silicon? I ask Melodyne they say it is on your end. Yesterday some of my project files just disappeared out of the blue. Not to mention all the glitches and visual bugs that you guys never fix.

Ableton received maybe ten updates since Logic's last update. GarageBand? You guys keep updating it every week. I know this post will not get me anywhere but I need to let this frustration out somehow. Logic Pro is an unattended piece of junk software.

Missing files is a file management issue, when you File -> Save As... is the box for Audio Files (and anything else you may use) checked? This ensures all files needed for the session are in the session folder. I've only ever had Logic corrupt a session in the near 20 years I've used it, and it was due to user error (using the Environment as a mixer and deleting some important stuff). If files are vanishing, that might be a drive issue, again having a back up is key as no drive is perfect. Avoid online backups like iCloud Drive at all costs.

The error about the interface I get with old sessions from time to time, that just needs to be addressed in the settings then saved and the error goes away, unless your interface has checked out for a bit.

Try some other DAWs and see what works for you, Studio One, PT, Ableton there's no right or wrong system, whatever gets you creative

Leave Feedback for Apple:

Do Your Part: Inform Apple of this. They will not get back to directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is going on, and what their customers need are. The more feedback that Apple's developers receive on this, the more likely they will include it in future Macs.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - MacBook Pro - Apple
  2. Select: "Performance" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Proceed from there as necessary.

Updates usually release when there are enough fixes to warrant it, its frustrating that Apple removed the Report Feedback... a while ago so you can only respond should Logic unexpectedly quit but I doubt those reports go to anyone who reads them.

What caused your projects to vanish? Do you have back ups? Logic can be glitchy at times so it's important to make back ups outside of Logic's Auto Backup system, graphics issues are an issue but there are always work arounds.

No DAW is perfect, Pro Tools can be very clunky and picky when compared to Logic so each have their strengths/weaknesses

Apr 25, 2023 6:11 AM in response to Ben Collier

I believe “Logic can be glitchy at times” is an understatement. It is very glitchy. As you said graphic issues mainly. Then there is the constant asking of missing files error when opening a project which you can never get rid of. Then there is the constant useless message of “previous audio interface was not found so we will use bla bla”. It just feels like a complete mess really.

I know no DAW is perfect but losing my recordings randomly?! Come on. I have been an ableton user for ten or so years never ever such a thing happened to me, never! What if that was an extremely good take which I was very proud off and not be able to pull off again. Such errors are unforgivable.

Yes no DAW is perfect but Logic lost all its initial glam on me. Having my hands on my first m1 mac pro it kind of allured me being an apple only product with its m1 optimization and all but now I see it as a huge pile of junk code which requires a serious overhaul.

While there is all this work that needs to be done what is the last update we had? ATMOS?!! Really? Like anyone cares. It is all a commercial mess.

I am already switching to another DAW, done with Logic. And the sad thing is I really really wanted to love it…

I stick to an older version with way way fewer bugs.

We, you and I, us all here in the forum, still care about Logic but I have to get songs out of the door so it does not need to be the latest version. Actually, I'd probably never get anything done if Iwas on the latest version.

The 'we' is also us users. Apple don't come here, it's a user to user forum. We'll try to help where we can but you're not talking to Apple..... so, it may get you somewhere as we are all the beta testers now. You just won't get anywhere with Apple here.

I am halfway on my switch to Reaper already. Actually I have almost 4-5 songs very close to completion in Logic, but I am so fed up of all these glitches and stuff never working I am moving all the projects to Reaper. And I do not mind the extra work... Guess what happened today:

I downloaded the trial of Vocalign app. I wanted to sync my back vocal tracks in Logic using it. (Aren't we all tired of doing it manually) Anyways, I installed the app and guess what? ARA did not work again!! This was the final straw for me. Everything works flawlessly in Reaper (knock on wood..) ...Goodbye Logic..and goodbye my 200 USD...

CPU peaking is a nightmare. Session with just dozen track with several instances of (simply) Waves plugins and some (2) Arturia & Serum synths and stock stuff can't run in 128 buffer size without audio drops and other artifacts, including some tracks playback loss. MacBook Pro M1 (16 GB of Ram). Ever with 256 buffer issues appears.

Latency compensation issues with Drummer or Drum Kit Designer and side-chained plugins, unrepaired from version 10.6.

Issued behavior of "R" record enable button on software instruments tracks (when a new track is added).

Brush Tool issues when assigned to third tool.

Mixer plugins view issue (not updated with arrange window view)

Side-Chain monitoring bug.

Adding a sample to sampler crashes Logic (when Alignmets Guides option is on) - when dragging sample towards under tracks area.

Out of sync exported Drummer Producer Stack tracks when "brushed" drum instruments are included.

Everything was reported to Apple, long time ago with no result. They didn't even downloaded WeTransfer pack, I sent them with detailed description and documentation (video).

Whether this is the behavior of a company that supposedly cares about the customer and its products? No explanations, no announcements, no updates and worse and worse work culture with the program. Something is stinking.

Logic has a great stock stuff but if they will not improve these (and many more) issues, it does not make sense to use Logic for other purposes than "bedroom producing".

It is really miserable. They have the computer, the OS the DAW, yet Cubase or Live works much better on Apple Silicon. Especially Cubase is flying on AS.

When 10.6 was released with Apple Silicon I was not even able to launch my old projects from my 2017 iMac.

I feel that this version is at it's limits. They add 32bit support but can import only, you can not edit the files. They add only one more level of stack etc..I hope this long gap since 10.7.0 means something with improvements and bug fixes are coming soon because at the end of the day Logic is always my favourite.

Apr 25, 2023 7:05 AM in response to Ben Collier

Yea maybe Logic is just not for me. I am already trying Reaper. And really tired of learning a new DAW. I really hoped Logic would be it. But please allow me to let it out a bit more;

Midi routing in logic for instance; you need to open that horribly confusing environment window and pull some cables between terribly drawn graphics while it is just a matter of a few clicks in other DAWs.

And then bouncing the flexed audio. You cannot just bounce and replace your audio after flex editing. It just does not work. I never ever were able to bounce and replace the audio with my flex edits in tact. It just does not work. To do this, I have to trim a section of another audio file and merge it with the flex edited audio to trick logic into creating a new audio file with my flex edits in tact. This method is also provided in a very well known logic pro instructor in youtube. Did logic fix this in the updates? Instead we got ATMOS! Hurray!

From the way it looks, Logic X feels like a continuously stacked code on top of each other since version 1, but never seriously overhauled. Not that I am a programmer and all but that is the feeling I get. I can't believe that Apple, the lords of minimalism and simplicity still keeps that environment window and is not doing anything about it. I started to think maybe the base code was poorly written and it is difficult to update or something. I don't know. Maybe the modest fee of 200 USD license fee is not enough for Apple to move their buttocks. 60 USD Reaper does not have any of the problems above and is being updated every few weeks. Apple should be ashamed.

Anyways thanks for listening and replying Ben.

Cheers.

10.5.1 version seems to be quite good. Everything from 10.6 (Apple Silicon compatibility) is a crap.

True, as you wrote, the code ran into a blind alley and maybe that's the reason they can't handle it. Or maybe Logic has too little market share and they don't care. Perhaps people understood that it was hard to work on Logic

in these times.

May 3, 2023 9:21 AM in response to baransmail

This DAW is becoming more and more garbage and a problematic. Apple is unwilling or unable to properly fix this. Maybe they don't have skilled programmers, or they just don't care. With such errors and tardiness, they should pay users compensation. There are often basic errors that have not been fixed for years. But we have more and more expensive computers and new emoticons in messengers :) Well done Apple :/

Time to switch to another DAW?

May 4, 2023 12:53 AM in response to zkmusic

From the way I see it, this software cannot be saved by quick fixes now. I am no programmer but I took some coding courses and have a general feeling of how things work. And it feels like there is something really wrong with Logic. So many bugs that god knows are related to what kind of consequences of messy coding.

It feels like Logic needs an OVERHAUL not a fix. I don't know at which version they started f*king it up but they surely did at some point.

Running Intel-Based Apps On a Silicon-Based Mac:

It’s nothing of a bug —it’s the way Apple designed it.

macOS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) was released around 2010. Silicon was released in 2020. So, you’ve gotten your macOS facts wrong.

Use a Virtual Machine:

On a Silicon-based Mac, the only way around this (as of this reply) is to use a Virtual Machine of MS Windows. Parallels is the app to use. VMWare Fusion is not supported (as of yet) on Silicon-based Macs. You’d run Intel apps off of that. All would be accessed and would operate as desired on the VM. Virtual Machine applications include VMWare Fusion and ParallelsLearn more here: What Is a Virtual Machine? - VMware Support.

I do not understand what are you talking about.

I am telling that Logic Pro Projects that I had on my 2017 Intel Mac were not able to play without problems on my M1 Max using Apple Silicon Native version of Logic Pro on my M1 Max.

In case you are referring to 10.6, I meant Logic Pro 10.6,which was the first version of Logic that had native Apple Silicon support. Not the OS Snow Leopard
