Macbook Air M2 will not shutdown

Got locked out due to forgotten password and now trying to reset, but the system refuses to power off for boot into recovery mode or reveal the reset options after successive bad password entries. What options are there beyond long press of the power button to force a shutdown on the new M2 systems?

Locked out of MacBook air I got an update to my system after installing it which required a shut down I got back into the system, but when I shut down the next time it would not accept my password. I did not change nor forget it. After numerous try’s with spaced intervals it locked me out. I don’t have a recovery key that it is asking for.

My macbook air locks me out every time i turn it on As the title suggests, I don’t understand why every time I turn it on, when my mac prompts me to log in, my password will always be “incorrect” and I will be automatically locked out for a number of minutes until I try again. The second time almost always works but sometimes it doesn’t. The kicker? I know my password is entered correctly because I don’t even have a password (i.e. it’s blank) it was mildly annoying before but now I am locked out 5 minutes at a time. Please help. Thanks.

Macbook Pro M2 stuck on the lock screen even after entering the right password! All of a sudden, I was unable to unlock my macbook m2 pro (running Sonoma 14.2.1) I tried all possible methods, like reinstalling MacOS from the startup options menu, and used the first aid on all volumes and containers using the Disk Utility option while in recovery mode. Please help me with other things I can try.

Only way to force a shut down is the long press if all else fails. Read this:
