Final cut pro won't leave files in place when I'm dragging them from a media browser

I use an app called File Loupe to browse my media because it loads tons and tons of videos fast. Lately I've been having an issue where if I drag a video clip from File Loupe to FCPX, it'll copy the media into the library even though I have "leave files in place".

I don't think it always did this because I've been using File Loupe and FCPX together for years. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you verified the correct import settings? Drag-and-drop settings are in FCP's Settings menu, not the import window. Just covering all the bases.

Otherwise like Tom said, FCPX sees the folder structure as a camera card, and for very good safety reasons, won't let you Leave In Place for camera cards. File Loope seems to not move things around, so if you are using File Loope directly on a camera card, then no, FCPX won't accept that for Leave In Place.

If this did indeed work as you expected in File Loope, I'd contact their tech support, see what they have to say. And verify the video codecs are supported in File Loope.

Just one note on this, I really struggled to get "leave in place" to work. The end solution was to not only change the name of the folder, but to also make that folder a direct descendant of the root folder on the external drive. If the folders were nested even one level it would not work. This is not good software design.

The files are all on an external SSD. I drag that folder to FileLoupe so that I can browse media super quickly, and then from FileLoupe I drag it to FCPX. This is where it then imports a copy of that file to the library, which is annoying because it takes up a ton of extra file space.

If I drag those same files straight from the finder, it works as expected.
