Macbook Pro M1 2020 connect TWO external monitors using the two USB-C/Thunderbolt ports

Why is it impossible on my Macbook Pro M1 2020 to connect TWO external monitors using the two USB-C/Thunderbolt ports? Everywhere I can read anything about it two external monitors should be supported? But I've done every kind of testing I can think of except resetting the SMC, which I don't believe should be the issue here?

The MacBook Pro M1 2020 supports only one external display.

MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020) - Technical Specifications

"Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display at millions of colors and

One external display with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz"

The Intel 2020 MacBook Pro can run two external displays, but not the M1 version.
