I left my apple pen on my keyboard dash while studying. I forgot it was there and tried to close my laptop and the apple pen pressed against the screen and the hinges of the laptop recoiled!! Is it possible I caused any damage to the laptop or the screen? I have the new MacBook Air with the Retina display for reference.

We can't examine your computer over the internet. You said it "recoiled". If it seems your computer has been damaged then you need to have it examined at either an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. They will tell you if any repairs need to be done.

Yes, it's possible. Contact Apple.
If by "recoiled" the hinge area "extended upward" or otherwise seems to overextend itself upward, yep it's damaged and you need to have Apple physically evaluate it.
