There is no direct way to change it from within iTunes. It is hard set in iTunes.
You can use an operating system feature called "Symbolic Links", to move the folder to a different location.

Why did you rename the folder? The folder name is where iTunes expects to backup. What the symbolic link does is move that folder's physical location to wherever you point it to, but you don't rename the original folder. You need to keep the folder as it is, and create the symbolic link inside that folder.
If you rename the folder, iTunes will just recreate the folder and continue to backup there.
Follow the steps in the support document linked above.

hello, i came across this thread because i am trying to do a symbolic link myself. I am wondering if you (or someone) might be able to help me.
I had copied the backup folder to a secondary internal drive, then I renamed the original backup folder to "old," and used the link commands like that says in windows elevated command prompt to redirect it. Both the copy of the numeric backup and another still exist. The backup folder that has it in the original directory is renamed, but what happens is windows command prompt says it cannot find the path when I try to redirect it. So then, I am not able to test a new backup, because it is not even recognizing the path. However, the syntax looks correct, and it seems that the only possible reason is that it is loking at "backupold" and needs a copy initially there instead of a renamed version.
the other websites seem to instruct to rename the folder that is called backup to "Backupold" in the original directory. Is it possible to omit the folder named "mobilesync" in the new drive? Can it just have a backup directory? also, do I need to name the numeric directory in the original directory and the new one for this?
