So, I lost my phone in the woods.

Sadly, it was off when lost. It Would have been dope if Apple could’ve remotely turned it on, so the Find My could not only be accurate, but also so I could play the sound and ACTUALLY find my phone. Oh well! And Theft & Loss was no longer activated. Perfect disaster 🤐 Suggestions? Apart from buying a new whole new phone?

Frustrating. Even if the phone is "Off", Bluetooth is usually still active for at least another day or two, so any other iPhones in close proximity can usually pick up the Bluetooth signal and use that to help display the location on the Find My map. We assume that you had Find My enabled on the phone.

But, there probably aren't any other iPhones in the woods in close proximity to your phone.

It's a shot in the dark, but if you have some friends who have iPhones and you can retrace your general path in the woods, the other phones might be able to pick up the Bluetooth signal from your phone.

Now, if the battery on your phone has run down completely, things are not going to work unless you can spot the phone with a pair of eyes. A metal detector might help if you can bring one along.

Troubleshooting a Lost iPhone

Find My can only be enabled directly on the iPhone. It cannot be enabled elsewhere. So, is it enabled on the iPhone? IF not, you'd have to do so the olde fashioned way: Backtrack your location.

So, what to Try:

  • Dial it: See if it is heard ringing

  • Ask Local Authorities: See if it has be hanged over.

  • Text It: Ask whomever has come across it, to contact you.

  • Ask Someone: See if someone you know (i.e. Friend, or Family Member) if that came across it.

  • Backtrack your Locations: If you are at a coffee shop, or a library, stop by and see if it was safely placed aside.
