import iphone pictures/videos on windows PC went wrong

I tried several times to import pictures and videos from my iphone on my windows PC via the microsoft app 'foto's' and via copy-paste. The import process works for part of the pictures/videos all of a sudden the import process stops and the message 'something went wrong' is displayed. Pictures are stored on the iphone, not in the cloud. Any idea what goes wrong and why. Does it have to do with a specific (type) of picture? I welcome your suggestions.

iPhone 11, iOS 16

My approach is to create folders on my computer of the form 2021,2022, 2023,... etc, and inside 2023-01, 2023-02, 2023-02, 2023-04,... etc. Then I look at the DCIM folder of the device, search for all files of the form *.* and sort the results by date modified. I then select one month of files at a time, copying each to its respective folder. That way if I find a file that won't copy for any reason, I can grab the rest from that batch and copy those, then go on to process the files for the next month.
