iMessage - can't sign in with Apple ID, only phone number

When I try to log in with my Apple ID in iMessage on iPhone 13 it asks me to input my country (Serbia), but it is not available in the listed countries. My Apple ID is set to Serbia, my FaceTime is working properly, and the App Store as well - they are all set to Serbia. I just have the problem with iMessage.


I can only set it up with my phone number, but then I can't link iMessage with my MacBook. When I open iMessage on my MacBook and go to settings, the Apple ID email Is listed there, as well as the phone number, but they are greyed out and I can't do anything with them. Next to the Sign Out button there is a spinning cog wheel, but it never finishes.



Everything is backed up to iCloud and there is plenty of available space. I tried restarting both the phone and laptop, disabling FaceTime and iMessage and reenabling them, signing out of Apple ID, but nothing has worked.


Yesterday everything was working fine, iMessage was linked to my Apple ID and to my phone number, but something obviously changed, I just can't figure out what.

I tried doing this, but the only option I get is to change my current email address linked to Apple ID to another email address, not a phone number.


I think the main problem is that I can't log in to iMessage on my phone with Apple ID (email), only with the phone number, because of the country issue. It just isn't listed there, which is quite strange because it worked perfectly well yesterday. Again, FaceTime works without problems, I can access the contacts app on my MacBook and call people from there I just can't message anyone from the laptop, because I can't log in.
