weird Tor download - is it a trojan?

Hi, I just tried to download Tor from their website onto my macbook. Got a 'Success!' message but nothing showed up on the mac anywhere; but I noticed download activity on my phone, superimposing the Google Drive icon and the Messenger icon, which disappeared after a few seconds. I have no idea what's going on. There is some malware associated with fake Tor browser downloads. Should I be worried?

I noticed the icons for Google Drive and Messenger on my iphone homepage were superimposed with a download 'countdown clock', straight after I clicked 'download Tor' on the Tor website. When the 'clock' finished counting down, about thrity seconds, the icons reverted to normal. It could have been a coincidental update maybe? But although I got a 'success' message on the Tor site, I couldn't find any trace of a Tor download on the laptop

Would it help?

As I understand your question, you downloaded and installed something on your Mac for reasons you did not explain and that you don't seem to understand, which is resulting in strange and inexplicable activity not only on your Mac but on a device that ought not to be related to it, and now you are asking if you should be concerned.

Isn't that the sort of question that answers itself?
