I realize that Adobe Acrobat Reader is not too scriptable.
Is there a way to open/activate Adobe Acrobat Reader and then close or hide the window that is generated while keeping the app running?
I have tried this but window stays open:
tell application "Adobe Acrobat Reader" to activate
tell application "Adobe Acrobat Reader" to close every window

No guarantees (I don't use Acrobat Reader), but there is a standard AppleScript command launch which is supposed to do this - launch the application in the background without it doing its normal UI thing.
There's no guarantee that Acrobat Reader will honor it, but it's where I'd start:
tell application "Adobe Acrobat Reader" to launch
