Apple watch burn on wrist?

I was recently told by Apple that the battery in an Apple Watch could not cause a burn to my skin if it leaked. I was wearing my Apple Watch when I felt a burn/shock, I took it off immediately notice a small blister on my wrist. I examine the back of the watch and where one of the sensors was, was corrosion and a hole. The sensor was missing. There was some corrosion around the hole where the sensor had been. Apple has determined that it was accidental damage caused by the user. My questions are: if the watch battery could not have caused the burn, what did? How could the sensor be damaged with normal wearing? I'm nervous to purchase a new watch a) bc I don't want to get burned again b) I don't want to spend the $ if the watch isn't going to last 3 years.

Any suggestions?

Lithium Ion batteries like the one found in Apple Watch can burn, however, this is very rare and there would likely be other issues such as a lifted display and reduced battery life. The issue was likely caused by something else. If the display is lifted immediately place your watch in a fire resistant area outside away from other items. If not, your watch should be fine too purchase and use another watch unless the issue occurs again.

I agree with IdrisSeabright, there is no way to claim that this from the Apple Watch. Also, you are choosing to use a damaged Apple Watch so if it scratches you that's on you at that point. I am sure the advisors gave you an option to repair/replace the watch. If you have apple care it's 69$ if not you might as well buy a new one. I still know people who use the first gen Apple Watch and recharge daily and it still works.

Hope that helps,

From the photo, it looks like there was an impact to the back of your watch, hence why Apple suggested Accidental Damage. I've worn Apple Watch for years and have never seen something like this.

But, this is a user to user only forum and we don't work for Apple. Since you've clearly already consulted with Apple, there's little anyone here can offer you.

Based on your photo, it's highly unlikely you have an issue with the battery. There is clearly damage to the watch, however. And it clearly shows an impact, where the sensor was. Whether this has happened to anyone or hasn't isn't going to help you much. Apple is the final arbiter here and they already told you watch suffered accidental damage. Whether you choose to pay for a replacement watch or buy a new watch is totally up to you.

I'm trying to tell you there is no way other users can tell you what happened from looking at a photograph.

You did do the right thing however, and had Apple look at your watch. What you could possibly expect of substance from other users on a user to user only forum, who can only see a photo of a clearly damaged watch, just isn't going to get you much.

But I'll take your advice and bow out as you seem to have an expectation here, which isn't going to be realized. But charge on and good luck.

Thank you! The answer “can burn” is an answering to what I was asking. I was told by an apple adviser who was working on my case, that the battery doesn't contain any substance that could burn skin.

You could also get killed by falling space debris. Neither is very likely.

Also, I'm not really sure how this helps you. Are you going to go back to Apple and say that some random person on the internet told you that you can get burned (no offense to elyk233, that was a good answer). What are you expecting will happen?
