Laptop not turning on

My laptop isn’t turning on. It’s been charging, so it’s not out of battery. I’ve held down the power button many times, but it doesn’t turn on - it’s just a black screen. I was wondering whether my laptop needs to get fixed or if I need to do something else to turn it on.
