Pairing hearing aids to more than one Apple device

I just acquired Oticon Real 3 hearing aids. Oticon clearly states these are Made for iPhone compatible. (I note Apple does NOT list this model as compatible but this may be because Apple has not updated its compatibility list recently.) Contrary to the pairing instructions provided by Oticon and Apple, I can pair the hearing aides to either my iPhone XR or my iPad Air 2 but not both. I have followed all the necessary steps including turning the hearing aides on/off before connecting and selecting Forget this Device in order to re-establish the connection. After numerous attempts I find I can connect both left and right hearing aides to one or the other Apple device, but not both at the same time. Sometimes the connection is made to one hearing aid on one Apple device and the other hearing aid to the other Apple device, but never both hearing aides to both iPhone and iPad. Anyone have an idea why this is happening?

iPhone XR, iOS 16

You are correct, thank you. I posted the same question to Oticon and received the following response which I'm posting here for anyone else with the same question:

From Oticon Support:

Turn Bluetooth OFF to the Apple device not being worked on

Oticon BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) hearing aids are made to connect to ONE Bluetooth device at a time; when connected to multiple Bluetooth devices, the aids will not work properly (i.e. only hearing in one aid, sound bounces from one ear to other, both aids do not receive sound, intermittent connection, etc)

When working with multiple Apple devices (iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch) and Oticon BLE accessories, please make sure ANY ‘connected/paired’ Apple devices have Bluetooth OFF, while working on a different Apple device.

• If working with the iPhone, please turn Bluetooth OFF to the iPad.

o When finished clearing the iPhone, turn Bluetooth OFF to the iPhone.

• If working with the iPad, please turn Bluetooth OFF to the iPhone.

o When finished clearing the iPad, turn Bluetooth OFF to the iPad.

Doesn't state in their support that you can connect to 2 different devices at the same time https://www.oticon.com/support/how-to/connect-to-wireless-accessories
