Combining parts of two videos in Final Ct Pro

I am having trouble combining videos in the latest version of Final Cut

Pro.  In the past, after I placed a video clip in the timeline, detached

audio, reduced the length of the original visual part; I could drag a

second video clip onto the same timeline, detached its audio, delete its

audio, and dragged the remaining video into place with the first video

track. This way, I would be using the video picture from one file with

the sound of the other file. Now, however, when I drag the second video

onto the timeline, it only includes a small portion of the second video.

I think that I have solved the apparent problem. The first video that I placed on the timeline was much longer than I thought. I missread the length to be a little over 3 minutes (it was actually over 3 hours). So when I added a video of a few minutes, it was very small. So, I thought that it was incomplete. The second video was likely loading properly.
