Can I replace audio and connect it in Final Cut Pro?

I have a clip which has audio which I am treating outside of FCP, so I export the audio and then bring it back into FCP and line it up in sync in the timeline, but I want it to be linked to the original video permanently so that when I edit it, it remains connected exactly as the original audio was. Is there a way to do this?

In addition to the always excellent advice from Luis, you can also relink to the new and improved audio, replacing the old audio. There are some limitations - FCP is very picky that the channels and sample rate match the original clip. To relink, select the old audio in the browser, choose File->Relink Files->Original Media, then in the relink dialog, navigate to the new audio and choose relink.

The simplest way is to turn the two into a compound clip.

If the “good” audio were available before editing, you’d have selected both in the browser and create a Synchronized Clip.

Compound clip makes sense, but didn't realize I could synch clips as you describe. So if I have the video clip and new audio which matches, syncing them treats the clip as one in the timeline. That's the solution I was looking for. Thank you!
