1st Gen Homepods - changing wi-fi and bass reduction

I assume there is still no simple method to assign a specific wi-fi service manually to Homepods.

I appreciate they are initially configured to the network used by the device used to set them up, but I have several wi-fi services at home, and have moved the Homepods to the study where wi-fi is more patchy than elsewhere so hoping to use internet sharing from the M1 Mac Mini which will be in the same room. If I duplicate the name of the original wi-fi service will the Homepod just connect to the stronger one? Or will they potentially connect to any networks known to the AppleID automatically?

All a faff as they are currently registered to another family member's AppleID which I'm probably going to need to change by resetting. Really frustrating, as if they move back to where they were I'm going to have to change that again. Just want them connected to a specific wi-fi best suited to their current location.

As for bass reduction, was there a specific iOS version needed to change this setting as we're mostly on non-current iOS versions.

HomePods should inherit Wi-Fi settings shared via iCloud Keychain with the Apple ID that created the Home they are assigned to. I've managed to move mine between work and home in the past. Ideally you would have a single linked Wi-Fi network with multiple access points if needed, with the same SSID, to provide coverage.

You can change the default account used for music without a reset, but if you want them to belong to a different Apple ID then a reset is the only way to do that.

I'm afraid I don't know when the bass reduction option came out.

So provided her phone can access any of the wireless networks they should also be available for the Homepod if it moves out of range of one of them? Just a shame they can't show which network they're connected to currently for troubleshooting purposes. There's a last generation Time Capsule downstairs and an Airport Express upstairs and I've used internet sharing over wifi from the M1 Mini in the study which is on ethernet as wifi reception is intermittent for the Homepods.

I guess if I disconnect the TC/AE from power or change the passwords temporarily if the Homepods are still connected to the internet they must be using the M1 Mini's internet sharing.

I really need to look at some kind of mesh system, but it's not a priority at the moment.

Looks like it came in with Homepod software version 15. I found that the bass reduction option wasn't available on my daughter's phone as she was on iOS 14, it is on mine under iOS 15. We've held back upgrading our old iPhone X phones to iOS 16. Maybe we should just take the plunge but I'm concerned about a hit on battery life as both phones could probably do with a battery service.
