Magsafe Battery Pack is not charging well my iPhone 12 Pro Max

I purchased a new Magsafe Battery Pack to use with my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I'm running the latest software update for my iPhone (IOS 16.4.1). I typically use my Apple 20W USB-C Speed Charger (which has a super thick and long cord) to charge my phone from the wall outlet. That said, I bought this Magsafe Battery Pack thinking it would be a great way to set my phone on at night to charge my phone, as well as have a battery back up on the go. Things are working out so great. When I plug my phone into the Speed Charger and directly to the wall, my phone charges super quickly. I can typically have a full charge in less than an hour. I've tried several different ways of charging via the Magsafe- Magsafe by itself with the Speed Charger, Magsafe plugged into the Speed Charger with the iPhone sitting on top, Magsafe attached to the iPhone while the iPhone is plugged into the Speed Charger... nothing seems to work well. I've left it sitting in each configuration for about an hour. No matter what I do, my iPhone is sitting at 14-16%. It's extremely slow. And the entire things is super hot. This Magsafe is getting my iPhone very hot. Honestly, I'm bummed. Am I doing something wrong? Ideally, we should be able to easily tell how much battery charge is in the Magsafe, but I haven't effectively been able to tell that. Only twice has a Magsafe screen popped up on me to show me anything- the very first time I ever attached it, and one random time since then. How do I tell how much charge it has (besides seeing a green light flash for a few seconds when it's charged- never seen that, but heard it's suppose to happen). Geez Apple. Give us an on/off switch. Give us a Magsafe app. From everything I've read, I should be able to plug my iPhone 12 Pro Max into the 20W USB-C Speed Charger, attach the MagSafe, and charge both the iPhone and the Magsafe at the same time. It's just not working, or working well. Bummer. If anyone knows the best way to use this or if there is a specific Magsafe app I can use to actually see what's going on with the Magsafe, not just my iPhone battery, please do tell.

I’ve read it all. This MagSafe doesn’t seem so safe. It popped up a warning on my Lock Screen saying, “Charging will resume when iPhone returns to normal operating temperate”. It’s slow to charge- barely works at all, and heats up my phone to the point it’s hot to touch and shuts down because of over heating. My phone is new, only a couple weeks old. And I just bought this MagSafe. Good luck keeping it charging your phone in your pocket. Going to burn the family jewels.
