iPhone 13 restore failing due to extra backup folders being added on pc

When trying to restore my iphone 13, it ends with an error message saying it failed ''because an error occurred reading from or writing to the iphone.''

The cable is 100%

Itunes version is 12.12.8.2

Backup file is roughly 500 gb

Before the restore the drive with the backup folder had +- 285 gb free.

After the error message the drive is full. I see a new backup folder with todays date added in the folder.

It seems Itunes is creating an ''extra'' backup during the restore process and then the drive becomes full and the restore fails.

Any fix?
