iTunes backup failed, still took space

I recently attempted to back up my iPhone to my PC, but the process failed at around 90% due to insufficient space on my hard disk. Strangely, even after the failure, it seems that the storage space was not reclaimed, and when I checked the directory User -> Apple -> MobileSync -> Backup, the folder appears to be empty.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue or knows how to resolve this? I appreciate any insights or suggestions.

Thank you!

See Relocate iOS device backups. There are two different potential backup locations depending on the source of your iTunes install. Check both for the failed backup. Use the advice there to relocate the backup data to a drive with more free space, but bear in mind iTunes still queries the system drive when checking if it thinks there will be enough room to complete the backup.
