Apple One - Apple TV+ Pre-paid

(This relates to Apple in Canada, so the amounts referred to are the prices in Canada.)

The Apple One family bundle costs C$24.95/month.

I now pay C$3.99/month for 200gb of iCloud storage because I have about 60gb of need.

I used Apple TV+ gift cards to prepay for Apple TV+ through to April 2025. The monthly price of Apple TV+ is C$8.99.

If I were to subscribe to Apple One family would my monthly billing be:

C$24.95 minus C$8.99 = C$15.96 until April 2025 and then move to whatever the price is then?

The reason I’m asking is that I find the wording on the Apple website unclear. It says,

Any existing subscriptions that are included will automatically become part of your Apple One plan and you will no longer be billed separately for them.

That suggests to me that I would be billed C$24.95 monthly and does not say what would happen to my 23 months of pre-paid Apple TV+.

Hi Ernie Gorrie,

If you added some gift cards to you Apple Account balance, you'll see that in Settings > [your_name] > Payment & Shipping. You'll see the total balance next to "Apple ID."

What should be happening is that your existing gift card balance is deducted from each month as your Apple TV+ subscription is due. What would happen is your existing subscriptions would cease being billed and then be billed to your Apple ID balance as part of your Apple One subscription.

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried the earlier suggestion that I contact “Get Support”.

The person said that, “… before you subscribe, when you add the apps that you want on the family subscription you will be able to see how much would be for the subscriptions”.

I wanted to be certain and asked, “You are saying I can start the process to subscribe to a family plan, see the monthly cost for the items I select, then I can decide whether it provides value for me. Is that correct?”

That was confirmed. Unfortunately it was not correct. I had to subscribe to Apple One Family first. Later I could decide whether to unsubscribe individual services. It appeared to me that I would be credited only about C$3.00/month for my pre-paid TV+ subscription. That didn’t seem right.

I went back to chat support. The closest I got to the information I sought was that, “… you will have to pay C$24.95/month. Just for apple one and will be given an amount of money which is some of what you have paid for Apple TV already”(Bolding added) No one could tell me what the amount wad of “some of what you have paid”.

I spent over 90 minutes today in iMessage chat to get a clear answer. I was unsuccessful in getting clarity. I gave up.

Thank you for the reply. I looked as you suggested, but that is not what I see.

The gift cards I loaded for the Apple TV+ subscription were not generic Apple gift cards. They were specific Apple TV+ gift cards. So when I loaded them, the balance for my Apple account didn’t change.

In Settings > [your_name] > Payment & Shipping I see the balance from generic Apple gift cards I have loaded, but that amount does not include the value of the Apple TV+ gift cards.

When I look at Settings > [your_name] > Subscriptions I see,

“Apple TV+

“$0.00 monthly

“Renews April 14, 2025”
