Mail dialog box will not close
Cannot get rid of dialog box 'Cannot send message using server xxxxxx' Cannot close mail because this dialog box is open and cannot delete message because 'close (red) button' not active.

Click the apple icon in the upper left corner then select 'Force Quit'. From that list choose Mail, then press the Force Quit button. After doing this, reboot into safe mode to allow the system to run diagnostics and repair things it finds wrong.

Thanks - that worked. Obviously I did not think to try force quit! Did not succeed in starting in safe mode but dialog box is gone.
