PDFs

How long have PDF files existed and Apple still can’t figure them out? Why can’t I just click on a PDF and view it in iPadOS? I want my documents saved in my Files App as anyone would, but for some reason I have to keep them in another separate app. The Books app, where I keep my books. Here’s my client’s contract, right next to Oliver Twist where it should be, right? SMH. If this app has the ability to view PDFs why can’t you put that in the Files App? What gives?

iPad Pro, iPadOS 16

If you touch-and-hold (i.e., long touch) the PDF filename in the Files App (in order to show the actions menu) - do you not see an action entitled Quick Look?

Tapping the Quick Look action should open the PDF file in the viewer.

Okay, this is confusing because I just saved another PDF to the files app and this one works. This one however, couldn’t be Airdropped like the other PDFs from my MacBook and I had to email it to myself and save it from the email app. I had tried the email method with the others. The one that works is an original PDF and the others that I’ve tried so far were converted. I don’t know if that makes a difference, but either way it’s still a PDF that can’t be figured out. The working one wouldn’t even let me attempt an Airdrop; when I select Airdrop, my iPad doesn’t show up, but shows up when it’s grouped with other Airdroppable file, then the group fails to send. I also just converted a document from Pages to PDF and that one opens just fine.
