Can not use phone number with iMessage because number is Apple ID

I was using my phone number as my primary apple ID earlier, and switched to a new account the past year.

I want to use that phone number to receive iMessages on my new Apple ID, but it won't let me.

If I delete my previous Apple ID with the phone number, then I can not use it with iMessage based on this:

The phone number that you use with your Apple ID account, +91 XXXXX XXXXX, will no longer be available for use with any new or existing Apple ID. To ensure that it cannot be used again, a record of this phone number will remain on file with Apple.

Is there any way around this?

Hello adityachopra,

The information you've quoted above is correct, and there is not a method around this. You can learn about learning a mobile number as an Apple ID here: Use your mobile phone number as your Apple ID - Apple Support

You may be able to change your Apple ID to another phone number, however, whatever phone number you use will face the same restrictions.

Change your Apple ID to a different mobile phone number
Depending on the country or region that you live in and how you created your Apple ID, you might be able to change your Apple ID to a different mobile phone number from your Apple ID account page or on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Take care.
