I have the same problem as others, my phone overheats when connected to Apple Car Play, especially when using maps and listening to music through my phone. Is there a fix for this? It is never in the sun when it happens, always in the shade.

Then you should schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar and have Apple test your iPhone. We are all users here on this user to user only forum. You need your phone checked out.
When you say it is overheating, it is actually shutting down and you see the temperature warning sign on the screen? If no, your phone isn't overheating. It may be warm, for sure as the things you mention you are doing make the battery work harder in the phone and when a battery works harder, it generates heat.
I don’t get the temperature warning sign but the phone starts acting weird and the screens are glitchy, just like it does when it does overheat, I’ve had the temperature warning in the past and it is acting just like that. It’s not just warm, it is very hot to the touch and I can’t open any applications without glitchy screens and poor functionality.
