I agree. I don't like the fact that when you open Wallet > Apple Card, the Apple Savings account balance is displayed right there for anyone close by to see and target you. It's a Savings Account! Same for Checking Account. Do you share/view your Checking or Savings Account Statements in public? And if I recall (it's been many years) ATM's and receipts don't show/print balance unless requested. Comments like; "Why hide your balance", "It's your iPhone, "Only you can unlock it",...etc" are unhelpful, irrelevant, and not the point. The point is it shouldn't be readily visible as it is. Also, it doesn't show when using it w/ Apple Pay. Regardless, it should be moved/hidden or offer option to do so. Obviously, Touch/Face ID is required to make actual payment, but it would be an extra layer of comfort if it was required to open Apple Wallet > Apple Card > Apple Savings for whatever reason. It's called privacy. And it should be up to the user.

Apple has announced the ability to lock and to hide apps in iOS 18, arriving later this year.

Which would allow you to hide Wallet app.

I would discourage running any beta with any hardware needed to work, or where apps are needed to be available, or with iCloud data needed to be available and uncorrupted.

As for any suggestions for Wallet to work differently, best send those to Apple directly: Product Feedback - Apple

I wish it were nonsense. Please see attached photo. When you double click the side button and all the credit cards show up and you select the Apple credit card to use, all of your personal Apple financial information is displayed, including Apple Savings info. To clarify, I'm talking about using an Apple Credit Card, not Apple Cash. In order to have an Apple Savings account, you need the Apple Credit Card. And when you use the Apple Credit Card for Apple Pay, all the financial info is there for all to see.

To clarify:

Double Clicking normally launches the default card AND initiates the biometric authentication process.

So if your AppleCard is set to default (bottom/front position) and your “double click” set appropriately …

… it will indeed function as lkrupp posted.

For example, here’s what I personally see when “double clicking”:

(The only redactions were the AppleCash balance and the name of the top-most loyalty card)

Every time someone uses Apple Pay/Apple Card, the Apple Savings balance is clearly displayed for the cashier to see your savings and credit card balance.

Nonsense. No. it is NOT displayed at all. When you double click the side button to pay with Apple Pay only the cards show up, NOT balances. Apparently you do not know how to use Apple Pay.

Wallet is an app, like every other bank app, except it offers more privacy than any other I’m aware of. If I open my Citibank, Chase, Wells Fargo, 5/3, Capital One, Discover, American Express, Regions, PayPal, Venmo and Cash App, front and center is every savings account, checking account and credit card account balance I have with the respective bank. Apple Wallet requires an additional tap to get through Apple Card and to Savings account. Effectively giving you one last chance to really question if you should be looking at your financial information in public.

Which is the real question, why are you opening your financial information in public? You say you want more privacy, then stop opening your private financial information in public. You’re just setting yourself up for being a target for theft or worse. Any additional layer of security won’t stop you from doing things in public that should be done in more private locations.

Re: “… I don’t them to see the account information as they have access to my phone …”

There’s an app for that

Use Guided Access with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

The iPhone is fundamentally designed as a single-user device.

It is NOT designed for multiple users; for those one-off instances when another individual requests use of your phone; Guided Access allows you to confidently say “Yes.”

Who are you letting see your Wallet? If you don’t trust people, don’t give them your iPhone. My Chase app quite clearly shows my savings account on the first screen, along with my checking account and other accounts. Why wouldn’t I want that information at a glance. The last thing I want is account balances hidden deep in some mysterious level requiring multi levels of additional security.
