Why won’t my AirPods update
My AirPods will not update and sound muffled when on transparency and the noise cancellation hardly works. It’s on 1A673 software currently, why won’t it update?

"Firmware updates are delivered periodically while your AirPods are charging and in Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac." - From: About firmware updates for AirPods - Apple Support
"When an update is available for the AirPods, they are automatically updated when paired to an iPhone running the latest software version. The update is not something that can be done manually." - From a May 2021 post by a Community Specialist https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252651237?answerId=255002769022#255002769022
Read the support article About firmware updates for AirPods - Apple Support for tips about ensuring your Airpods can receive any updates. Try leaving them plugged in overnight near your iPhone.
If you still have questions or problems:, refer to this document for ways to contact Apple --> Choose your country or region - Official Apple Support Select your country (also look for "other" regions), then a product. If you don't see one that handles your issue then keep experimenting with selections until you reach one that gets you a chat session or a telephone call and get the representative to redirect you.
Alternatively, contact Apple for support and service by telephone --> Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support
While fake Airpods will not receive updates from Apple, I would not automatically assume that your Airpods are fake. Enter the serial number in this link --> Check Your Service and Support Coverage - Apple Support Does it find them? If yes then at least the serial number is real, but fake copies might have real serial numbers that will, of course, be reported as valid. If you take them to Apple they can tell the difference. The bottom line is the only real way to be sure Airpods are not fake is to only buy them from Apple or an Apple Authorized retailer. --> Find Locations

Hey Julia0624,
Hmm, it sounds to me like your AirPods are not genuine Apple AirPod Pros. I myself have gotten scammed buying 3rd generation AirPods thinking they were real, until I tried updating them, and it wouldn't work. That's when I figured out they were fakes. :( I used Apple's Support webpage called "Identify your AirPods." I highly recommend checking it out: Identify your AirPods - Apple Support
Oh and btw 1A673 came out in 2021 I believe, so it's been 2 years...so I an sorry to say that you might have gotten scammed like I did. :(
It says they are legit on that website link
If you are 100% sure that your AirPods are genuine, then I would bring them into your closest Apple store and have them manually update them, as that is a service that they offer now. :)
