how to enable double-sided printing which is greyed out?

It may be grayed out because the wrong driver is installed.


Brother printers also work best with the Brother iPrint & Scan software available on the App Store.

Be sure to verify your operating system in Apple menu -> About This Mac, and visit the printer manufacturer website to find out if your operating system has supported drivers for download


Apple does use open source drivers which can be added which may or may not support double sided printing. To access the open source drivers hold the Option (Alt key on Windows keyboards) when you add the printer through the System Settings/Preferences.


Please note, you posted to the Yosemite forum with a signature saying you are running Ventura. Be sure to post in the Ventura forum for future Ventura posts.
