My iPhone is sending read receipts when I have it disabled

Just found out that all my iMessages are showing as “read” when all my settings and contacts are showing “send read receipts” are toggled off. The tech I spoke to this morning didn’t have much of a work around but suggested to send the info thru their feedback section online. I urge you all to do the same

until this finally gets fixed. I’ve been under the impression for years that no one would know when I read their messages only to find out it’s never worked for me.

Hopefully there will be a fix ASAP

It sounds like you've checked your Settings to make sure that this feature is off. In that case, it would be a good idea to check the individual thread to see if it's turned on for that specific thread. This could override the one in Settings so it's a good idea to check here too.

Head to an individual thread that is still receiving Read Receipts. While open, tap the person's name at the top of the screen. Scroll down to Send Read Receipts to see if it's enabled or not. If it's enabled, turning it off here should help with your issue.

I can't believe this, mine are sending also, I have it off on my iPhone, iPad, MacBook, Mac and I have checked the contact in the message threat, not checked on either in any device.

How is this getting fixed. I am beside myself.

Only that one specific contact had read receipts turned on. The rest were all off. Thanks for this tip. How would the one be on when the rest are off? I don’t turn any on. Well at least it’s fixed. Just curious
