Home sharing wifi vs ethernet

I have a laptop in my office, it has my iTunes library on it and I sync to that laptop. I have several iPhones and I pads that I sync to that laptop. I have another computer in my recording studio that is connected via ethernet. The laptop is WIFI. I cannot get iTunes home share to be recognized in the studio computer. So do both laptop and Studio computer have to be either on WIF or Ethernet or can they be on different connections.
