Google Chrome as Default Web Browser

I am on an iMac Mid-2011 desktop (yes, ancient!). When clicking on a link in Mac Mail, it always takes me to Safari. I would prefer it take me to Google Chrome. When I tried to change my web browser default in Apple>System Preferences>General>Web Browser Default I only see a check mark and no web browser names. When I go to Chrome>Preferences>Default Browser it says that Google Chrome is my default browser.

Any way to fix this and have the browser choices show in the Apple System Preferences?

Thanks

Hi, I am on High Sierra 10.13.6. When I go to Safari Pref, it says Safari is not my default browser. I click on Set Default and choose "Keep Chrome."

In Sys Prefs>General, there are no default web browsers listed. It's just blank and I think that's my problem.

In Mail, I see no preferences for web browsers. It's email links that I'm trying to have open in Chrome rather than Safari.

"Google Chrome as Default Web Browser: I understand this is an Apple forum and it's Mac Mail that seems to be the issue here. It wants to open email links in Safari. Not sure how Chrome can help me with this, but I'll try anyway. thanks."

Try "Open With..." while on Mail:

  1. Right Click: on the Link
  2. Hover Over: Open With
  3. Select: Other...
  4. Click: Always Open With (so that it has a checkmark)
  5. Select: Google Chrome or Chrome
  6. Click: Open button
